Back in 2010 I started my own Hip Hop culture blog called Fresh Air Flavor that would act as the music/media side of Ground Flow Communications. And for the first video in a series I was doing on music producers, I got to interview one of my colleagues and first people to link with when I first moved to Pittsburgh, Shade Cobain.
Shade Cobain is a drum snob. A beat scientist. A wizard with the chops and rhythms. All titles that don’t speak to this man’s patience and knowledge of the music game and craft of beat making. He has over 15+ releases, and that’s just his solo catalog (lol!). Never mind the slew of fresh-ass collabs he’s put out over the years, like ‘BLACKTIVITY’ with Illtone.
On this interview, I got to ask Shade what his take is on “what is Hip Hop?”, a question that always keeps popping up. Especially in today’s Hip Hop music and culture, where the question is more avoided or passively taken on, than directly and honestly answered.
Check out this dope interview and and be sure to follow Shade Cobain on Pandora, Spotify, and your favorite social media spaces!
